Kvinnor i Svenska Kyrkan -
Women in Church of Sweden

The national organisation Kvinnor i Svenska Kyrkan (Women in Church of Sweden) was founded in 1947.
It is a politically independent, democratic organization with individual membership.
Kvinnor i Svenska Kyrkan is intended for women, already active within the Church of Sweden, or searching and curious of the church.

It is headed by a national board. The members form regional groups in the 13 dioceses where local and regional acitivities will be arranged..

This is Kvinnor i Svenska Kyrkan
We see the oppression women have been subjected to throughout history and in which the church has played a part.

We guard the values of equality, rights and responsibilities for everyone, and see the equal participation of women in the church community as important, inspiring and life giving.

We convey knowledge about women’s position in the traditions of the church, support the personal development of our members, and support women elected for public office with leadership training.

We participate in the developing of manuals and lithurgy, and deliver statements on matters of consideration.

Holy Dancing/Moving Meditation, where the movement of the body is refined to energy and inspiration, is one of our deliberate contributions to church services.
We participate in women’s work for peace in accordance to the UN Security Council Resolution no: 1325

We lobby against trafficking, violence towards women, sexual abuse and trading of minors, and all kinds of discrimination based on sexual preference, culture and social standing.

We engage in issues on environmental care, global trade and global justice. 

We participate internationally, ecumenically and between religions in the effort building and reinforcing solidarity between women all over the world.

Kvinnor i Svenska Kyrkan want to
♦ in critical solidarity with the traditions of the church, shape a theological reasoning over life, the universe and God, based on the insight that the human being  is but one instance in a complex weave of life, in delicate balance with the rest of nature

♦ encourage and support women in their personal development and growth, and inspire women to take active part in the church, in society and internationally

♦ support women who have reached a position in public life, encouraging them to engage in issues that concern women and women’s interests, and that are beneficial for a future on our planet

Membership
As member you can take part in the shaping of the activities of the organization. You will also receive the magazine ELSA and will be invited to seminars, meetings and conferences.
Membership is acquired by paying SEK 100 to Bankgiro 422-3699 and after having filled in this form >>
